Martin Johnson

Martin Johnson has long been regarded as the wittiest writer on sport in the country and is generally thought to have played a very significant role in the Independent's initial success when he was their cricket correspondent at launch in the eighties. He went on to join sports editor, David Welch (with whom he had previously worked on the Leicester Mercury), at the Telegraph in 1996, and remained there until joining The Sunday Times in 2009.
A year after joining the Telegraph he was named SJA Sports Feature Writer of the Year, and has since been "highly commended" in both the British Press Awards and the SJA Awards several times.
His books include the successful autobiography of David Gower, "Rugby and All That", and "Can't Bat, Can't Bowl, Can't Field - the best cricket writings of M. Johnson". Martin has also contributed regularly to cricket, rugby, golf and airline magazines, as well as making appearances on Sky.
Martin now works in a freelance capacity, and, as well as appearing regularly in The Sunday Times, is available for other non-conflicting publications.
