Martin Johnson

Martin Johnson

Martin Johnson has long been regarded as the wittiest writer on sport in the country and is generally thought to have been a very significant factor in the Independent's initial success when he was their cricket correspondent at launch in the eighties. He went on to join sports editor, David Welch (with whom he had previously worked on the Leicester Mercury), at the Telegraph in 1996, and remains there as an award-winning sports feature writer and columnist.

A year after joining the Telegraph he was named SJA Sports Feature Writer of the Year, and has since been "highly commended" in both the British Press Awards and the SJA Awards several times.

His books include the successful autobiography of David Gower, "Rugby and All That", and "Can't Bat, Can't Bowl, Can't Field - the best cricket writings of
M. Johnson". Martin has also contributed regularly to cricket, rugby, and golf and airline magazines.
